Group insurance for OCSTA members is available through RTOERO’s Entente Group Insurance Program. When you join the plan, you also become a member of RTOERO—a national, purpose-driven association with deep roots in Canada’s education community.

The plan is owned and operated by RTOERO on a non-profit basis and is supported by a trusted team with a 50-year track record of delivering group insurance to the education sector.

More details

Members who aren’t covered by a group plan must complete a simplified medical questionnaire for extended health and hospital coverage.

No medical is needed if you’re transferring from another group plan or adding secondary coverage.

Adding secondary coverage? You tell us the date.
If you’re keeping your existing group plan and using ours as supplemental coverage, your coverage will start on the date you choose.

Switching from another plan?
If you’re replacing your current group plan, your coverage will start on the later of:
•    the date you choose
•    the day after your current plan ends

No group plan?
•    Extended health and hospital coverage will begin once your application is approved after a review of your medical questionnaire.
•    Dental coverage starts on the date you choose—no medical review needed with a 24-month commitment.

Approval can take one to several weeks, depending on your situation. If more information is needed, the underwriter will contact you.

Premiums are billed monthly on the 5th of every month, one month in advance.

Yes, since you’re part of Canada’s education community, you will become an RTOERO member when you apply for insurance. Learn about the other benefits of membership.

No, since you are eligible for RTOERO membership anyway, your coverage and RTOERO membership continue when you no longer serve as a trustee.

Your spouse or partner doesn’t need to be a member to be eligible for coverage. This includes a spouse through legal marriage or a partner who has lived with you for at least the last 12 months. Coverage is available for:

  • Unmarried children under 21 who aren’t employed full-time
  • Unmarried children under 30 who are enrolled as a full-time student at a post-secondary institution and who are dependent on you for support
  • Children of any age who are disabled

As a member of RTOERO, your immediate family will also have the option to join RTOERO and access the group insurance plan. Learn more about who can join RTOERO.

Entente group insurance plans — extended health care, dental, and hospital and convalescent care — are owned and operated on a non-profit basis by RTOERO. The volunteer-led board of directors and benefits committee manage the plan design and premiums with the commitment to put plan members first.

Service to members is provided by:

  • belairdirect Agency Inc. (formerly Johnson Inc.) as the claims and service administrator — a proud partner of RTOERO for more than 30 years
  • Canadian Premier Life Insurance Company, a Securian Financial Company, as the underwriter of the Entente plans
  • Belair Insurance Company Inc. as the underwriter of travel coverage included in the extended health care plan, and the available supplemental travel plan to top up for additional days
